About the Book Club

Each month ISPS-US reads a different book and discusses it over a special Book Club Listserv. Past titles have included Claire Bien’s Hearing Voices, Living Fully, Michael Garrett’s Psychotherapy for Psychosis & Dmitriy Gutkovich’s Life with Voices: A Guide for Harmony.  This special edition of the book club is brought to you in partnership with Hearing Voices Network USA and is open to the public!

Starting September 1st, we will be reading The Book of Form and Emptiness by Ruth Ozeki. Ruth will join us for a live webinar in conversation with our partners for this event, the Hearing Voices Network, on 9/29/22 at 6pm (Eastern.) You must register for that event separately on Eventbrite.

The book can be purchased where good books are sold, including Amazon.

  • Location: The book club will take place via email discussion group, with a Zoom book club meeting on September 25th at 4pm (Eastern Time) to discuss our thoughts, reflections, and experience of reading the book. We will then hold a public webinar on September 29th with the author, Ruth Ozeki, which you must register for separately on Eventbrite.

About the Author

Ruth Ozeki is a novelist, filmmaker, and Zen Buddhist priest. Her acclaimed novel, The Book of Form and Emptiness, published by Viking in September 2021, tells the story of a young boy who, after the death of his father, starts to hear voices and finds solace in the companionship of his very own book
